New Autobiography

CANCER,
My GREATEST TEACHER

‘Sometimes disease is not about disease, sometimes it is about what we need to heal in our lives, and it can take us on a journey of self-discovery — if only we are willing to take that path. Healing occurs on many levels and comes from many sources. Healing is our own responsibility; other people, including doctors, can only guide us.’

Teresa Towpik,

Cancer, My Greatest Teacher follows Dr Towpik on her journey through cancer, and how she found an inner strength she never knew she possessed in dealing with the cancer. Dr Towpik takes readers on a journey through her life from her early years in Poland through to the moment she discovered the life-changing lump. Dr Towpik is forced to confront not only the disease itself but also all the other aspects of her life that needed to be healed. 'Cancer got me on my knees, made me humble and humiliated, and it made me investigate my existence and mortality. I was forced to question who I am, and this ultimately led me to create other experiences in my life.'

Cancer, My Greatest Teacher is a powerful narrative of a woman who confronts her fears and embraces cancer as her guru and guide.

Well done Teresa Towpik! I read your book on my Kindle and could not put it down. I did not sleep until late into the night because of your story. Inspiring story and well written too. A heartfelt story written but an amazing human being. Teresa walks the talk and I enjoyed every line. Great storytelling and reflections. Very enjoyable read. Look forward to the next chapters.

This is an inspiring book about the strength of the human spirit, and a guide on how to get back up when life knocks you down.  I was deeply moved by Dr Teresa’s vulnerability, each page is truly a gift to receive.  Dr Teresa has turned her pain into action and has left no stone unturned in her quest for health, happiness and spiritual growth.  I admire her vulnerability to share her experiences of love, loss, pain and growth with readers - she shares all of it.  Dr Teresa is a seeker and an inspiration to anyone navigating life’s challenges, and particularly a cancer diagnosis.  She is a strong woman, doctor, teacher, student of life and trailblazer, and in this memoir, she documents and honestly bares it all.  A wonderfully inspiring read!

Dr. Teresa Towpik is a medical practitioner and cancer survivor. In 1984 Dr. Towpik graduated from medicine in her homeland, Poland, before permanently moving to Australia where she’s been practicing medicine since 1991. Dr. Towpik is also a vocal advocate of the therapeutic properties of cannabis and has devoted her energy to studying this important plant since it was legalized for medicinal use in Australia.

In 2016, Dr. Towpik founded Medihuanna, an organization that provides science-based medicinal cannabis education for Health Professionals. Her goal is to change the stigma of cannabis through education, enabling it to be seen as an important medicine that should be integrated into modern medicine.

In 2001, she went from being the doctor to the patient when she discovered a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with breast cancer. She explored all the normal paths to help manage her cancer but found that a combination of ‘traditional’ with a ‘less mainstream’ approach helped her with her cancer treatment.

Dr Towpik is also a cannabis patient herself, using it in conjunction with conventional treatments since May 2019 when she was diagnosed with recurrent metastatic breast cancer.

Dr Towpik shares her experience as well as her life story, trials, and tribulations in her book, Cancer, The Greatest Teacher.
